GTA 6
Gerüchte zu Grand Theft Auto 6 gibt es praktisch schon genauso lang, wie GTA 5 auf dem Markt ist. Dass das Spiel erscheint, steht angesichts der überragenden Verkaufszahlen von Teil 5 – das Spiel war das mit Abstand meist verkaufte Spiel des letzten Jahrzehnts – auch überhaupt nicht zur Debatte. Es ist lediglich eine Frage der Zeit.
Steuervergünstigungen
Die Grundlage der aktuellen Spekulationen ist allerdings deutlich handfester als jeder vermeintliche Leak, der auf Reddit und ähnlichen Plattformen basiert. Hintergrund der aktuellen Gerüchte sind massive Steuervergünstigungen, die Rockstar Games, beziehungsweise ihr englischer Ableger Rockstar North im Vereinigten Königreich bekommen haben.
Wie die Webseite Taxwatchuk herausgefunden hat, nutzt Rockstar Games seit einigen Jahren ein Gesetz in Großbritannien aus, dass massive Steuerrückzahlungen ermöglicht, wenn ein Spiel kulturell mit Großbritannien zusammenhängt und zu großen Teilen dort entwickelt wird. Dies wurde bereits bei Red Dead Redemption 2 angewandt.
Für das Jahr 2019 bekam Rockstar Games die größte Steuerbefreiung, die jemals durch dieses Gesetz zustande gekommen ist. Dementsprechend groß muss auch das Projekt sein, für das es angewandt wird. Die Vermutung liegt also nahe, dass man die Steuern für die teure Entwicklung von GTA 6 einsparen will:
„Studios are able to make interim claims for VGTR before a game is completed, and the huge claims being put in by Rockstar are likely related to the production costs of GTA 6. As VGTR is related to production spend, the large claim indicates the scale of Rockstar’s next release, which is likely to cost far more than the $137m spent on GTA 5.”“

Nachdem diese Theorie breite Aufmerksamkeit erhielt, äußerte sich ein Rockstar-Sprecher zu den Steuervergünstigungen. Gegenüber vg247 wurde das Gesetz gelobt, dass Rockstar Games so viele Steuern erspart. Das Thema GTA 6 wurde dabei gekonnt umgangen:
“The UK’s program to support the growth of a broad range of creative industries through tax relief is a proven success. The program has directly resulted in Rockstar Games significantly increasing its investment in the UK, creating well over 1,000 highly skilled and long term jobs across London, Lincoln, Yorkshire and Scotland.
This investment and the success of British video games supported by the program not only significantly contributes to the economy, and to UK tax receipts, but also helps solidify the UK’s position at the forefront of video game development well into the future.”
